Hey HOBY! Seminar is here! The 2018 Volunteer Team is all ready for ambassador arrival and for another outstanding year of HOBY! Everyone here is looking forward to an amazing, life changing seminar this weekend! The theme for this year is “History Has Its Eyes On You,” which is a song from Hamilton: an American Musical. The theme was chosen because of its relevance to today’s world. The time period we’re in now is going to be looked at for years into the future, so history truly does have its eyes on us! There’s no better way to express that theme than shaping young leaders.
Speakers at this year’s seminar will teach ambassadors about three different types of leadership: personal leadership, group leadership, and societal leadership. Ambassadors will participate in activities focusing on discovering their leadership abilities and applying them to make a difference.
This weekend, we will have two fantastic keynote speakers:
Cordelia Banny, the founder of Catalyst Empowerment Group, LLC. Well-known for her compassionate, candid, and compelling storytelling, Cordelia is a sought-after speaker who travels nationally and globally to inspire, empower, and equip emerging leaders to activate their purpose and maximize their potential.
Jamie Utt, our second keynote speaker, has had a commitment to truth seeking and justice from an early age. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts in Peace and Global Studies from Earlham College where he dedicated his studies to conflict resolution and Middle Eastern Peace Studies. While at Earlham, Jamie spearheaded and supported many social justice efforts and worked as a sexual assault survivors’ advocate in a nationally-recognized sexual violence response, awareness, and prevention program. One of the most dynamic new voices for change and inclusion today, his workshops and presentations have empowered thousands to take personal accountability for making this world a better place.
Panels offered to ambassadors this year will cover the topics of social justice, self care, and returning to volunteer with HOBY. Our wonderful panelists include:
Detective Ted Fuini. Detective Fuini has been a Berlin Police Officer for five years and achieved the position of Detective and head of the juvenile division one year ago.
