HOBY’s annual international youth leadership event, The World Leadership Congress (WLC), is a dynamic leadership program that brings together students (or “ambassadors” as we like to call them here at HOBY) from the U.S. and abroad.
This group of over 400 ambassadors comprised of U.S. high school students and international students from all four corners of the globe convene for a week-long, life-changing, educational and leadership skills building program.
About the World Leadership Congress
HOBY’s World Leadership Congress is designed to allow students to discover their own personal leadership potential while becoming responsible and responsive global citizens.
Participating students have the opportunity to engage with thought-leaders in a wide variety of fields. They also participate in hands-on leadership learning and activities in addition to service opportunities throughout the week. After the week long program, students leave inspired and motivated to articulate and accomplish their goals as well as make positive changes in their local and global community.
The 2015 WLC will be held July 18-25 at Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, IL, USA. There is an optional Post-WLC Tour of Chicago available to students who wish to stay on and see the sights of Chicago at the conclusion of the program. The dates for the tour are July 25-27, 2015.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has placed the WLC on its National Advisory List of Student Contests and Activities for 2014-2015.

2016 WLC Eligibility – Connecticut Students
All Connecticut high school sophomore students who are scheduled to attend the CT HOBY’s leadership development seminar in spring 2016 are eligible to register for the 2016 World Leadership Congress (WLC). If a student would like to register for the WLC prior to attending a state leadership development seminar they may do so, bearing in mind that space is not secure until all of the following requirements have been confirmed and conditions have been met:
- Availability of space, as allocated to each seminar. The first 400 students who have paid the full program fee of $1,675 and meet the other requirements will be accepted.
- Receipt of the $1,675 program fee and completed required online registration by TBA or before the 400 person capacity is met, whichever is sooner.
- Completion of the 2016 CT HOBY leadership development seminar.
- To attend a U.S. state leadership development seminar, each sophomore must be selected by his/her high school based on demonstrated leadership potential.
